This is an accordion element with a series of buttons that open and close related content panels.

I lost my Study ID How do I log in to Tula?

If you have already created a Tula account, you no longer need your study ID. Follow these steps to access Tula:

  1. On the log-in screen, please scroll down to just under the white box where you first entered your Study ID when you signed up.
  2. There you should see this option: <img> (It may look a little different, depending on what device and operating system you are using to access Tula.)
  3. Click on the “Login” button. That will take you to a login screen where you can use your email address to log in.
  4. If you do not remember your password, please email the study team at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu, and we will send you a password reset email.

If you have not yet created a Tula account, please email us at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu and we will send you a new Study ID.

Can I share the study ID with others to join the study?

No. Participants will only receive a study ID if they are deemed eligible after completing the screening survey at isel.wisc.edu/screen. Those who are eligible will receive a study ID to access the app for the first time. Once you have created your Tula account, you no longer need your study ID.

Can I tell others about the study?

Yes. You can tell others about the study. Please share the link to our study website page at https://isel.wisc.edu/alcohol-wellness-study/. After reading more about the study, individuals can complete the eligibility screening survey, if they so choose, found here: isel.wisc.edu/screen.

May I share the study website link on Facebook or other social media?

No. We prefer not.

How do I know I have a notification in Tula?

Tula should send notifications to your phone. If you are not receiving notifications, your notifications for the app may be turned off. To change your setting preferences, please see the next question, “How to set or change my notifications?”.

How to set or change my notifications?

Notifications can be set or changed in Tula by clicking the sidebar (the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner)  and then clicking “Settings”. There are various ways to adjust your notifications and privacy settings within that tab including “Notification Settings” and “Lockscreen Settings”.

How do I contact the research team?

You can reach the research team at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu. If you are already a participant, you also have the option to contact the study team via a secure line in the “Messages from the Researchers” in Tula.

Is the info we send to each other on private messaging seen by anyone else?

No. Private Messages you send are only visible to you and the recipient. Private Messages are not used for research purposes.

What is Tula?

Tula is a smartphone app designed to help people balance their health-related goals with their drinking. The word Tula means “balance” in Sanskrit.

Are users and user information only visible to implementers?

User personal information is only visible to implementers. However, your screen name, and only your screen name, can be seen while posting on discussion boards.

What do I do if parts of the app aren't working?

You should contact us (the research team) at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu. You may also reach the researchers through the app by replying to any of the messages in the “Messages from the Researchers” tab. We can try to troubleshoot the situation before notifying our engineers.

How can I change how often I track my drinking habits?

You can not change how often you track your drinking on the app at this time.

Do I have to quit drinking?

No, unless that is a goal that you desire. The purpose of the study is to reduce your alcohol consumption and minimize alcohol-related harm while learning more about healthy lifestyle choices.

What should I do in the study?

Use Tula as you see fit, and continue to answer surveys as they are given to you.

What does the research involve?

Please see the Informed Consent Form within the Tula App. It can be accessed by clicking the sidebar (the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner) under “Study Information”.

When do I get my incentives?

Monthly incentives always come at the end of the following month. (i.e. Incentives for May will be sent out at the end of June.)

How do I get my incentives?

If you scroll to the bottom of the home page there will be a tab called “Messages from the Researchers”. If you click on this tab, you will see messages at the end of each month with the title “Your Research Participation (Gift Card Enclosed)”. In this message, you will find your Amazon gift code.

I want to quit. How do I leave the study?

You may email us at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu. Once you confirm that you would officially like to be removed from the study, we will delete your Tula account. Otherwise, please see the Informed Consent Form within the Tula App. It can be accessed by clicking the sidebar (the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner) under “Study Information”.

What do I do if Tula isn't helping me?

Tula focuses more on health and your personal relationship with alcohol and daily life. Tula is not designed for recovery. If you feel as though Tula is not helping you achieve your personal goals, please speak with your primary care provider to find more information about ways you can improve your relationship with alcohol.

How is my information used?

How do I get back to the app once I click on a link?

If the link takes you to an external website on another platform such as Safari, you will have to navigate back to your home screen and re-enter back into Tula. However, please consult your device manual, as this will vary from device to device.

Can you revisit or revise a survey once it has been submitted?

No, once a survey has been submitted you can not edit your responses.

Who do I contact for tech support?

You should contact us (the research team) at iselab@mailplus.wisc.edu, We can troubleshoot the situation before notifying our engineers.

I can't upload a picture? What do I do?

If you cannot add a photo, please check your device’s privacy settings. You may need to give the app permission to access your photo albums.
