Thrive Kansas: Computerized Cognitive Behavioral Health Therapy (2026)

The THRIVE Kansas Digital Mental Health Initiative is a CMS funded, statewide, evidence-based digital therapeutic strategy designed to expand access to treatment for depression, substance use disorders (SUD) and other mental disorders in rural Kansas. The initiative deploys validated computerized mental health interventions supported by community-based facilitation integrated into rural primary care, behavioral health, and community settings.
Gathering Stakeholder Perspectives Influencing the Adoption and Sustainability of Artificial Intelligence Algorithms to Identify Alcohol Use Disorder Risk from Electronic Health Records (2026-2027)

To characterize prospective stakeholder perspectives, including patients, care teams, healthcare organizations, and environmental/system-level factors, that influence the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of artificial intelligence, based algorithms designed to identify alcohol use disorder (AUD) risk from electronic health records. This work aims to inform the responsible integration of AI tools into clinical workflows. Ultimately, appropriate use of these algorithms has the potential to mprove care quality, reduce healthcare costs, and enhance early identification and referral of patients from primary care to hepatology for intervention on previously unrecognized AUD.
Testing an mHealth System for Integrating Alcohol Use Treatment with Hepatology Care for Patients with Alcohol-associated Liver Disease 2023-2028

The investigators will perform a randomized controlled trial testing the effect of a proven smartphone application for alcohol cessation (called CHESS Health Connections app) on alcohol cessation among patients with alcohol-associated liver disease at two medical centers in Michigan and Wisconsin.

This project will support the Addiction Health Services Research (AHSR) Conference. This program aims to improve research capacities by increasing the level of collaboration between established investigators and junior researchers. This conference disseminates research related to preventing and treating substance use disorders and complications, encouraging the development and support of Early Investigators and Minority Investigators, developing future collaborative relationships between leading and emerging researchers in addiction health services research, implementation science, and related areas, and calling for abstracts and research that address the distribution of addiction health services.
Clinic-level implementation of mHealth to improve HIV viral suppression for patients with substance use disorders 2021-2027

This project proposes to test the effectiveness of a combination of strategies that can be integrated into an HIV clinical practice to reduce HIV-related health disparities, including an evidence-based mobile health app and peer mentoring.
I-TRUST: Implementation of Teleophthalmology in Rural Health Systems Study 2021-2027

Teleophthalmology has the potential to dramatically expand access to preventative care, particularly for the 60 million Americans living in rural communities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of an evidence-based, stakeholder-centered implementation program, I-SITE, for sustaining increased diabetic eye screening rates in rural health systems at 18 months after initiation of I-SITE implementation compared to usual care teleophthalmology.
